The best time is in the morning…

Mark F.Twigt write in his book ”Extreme Alpinism” about security. He writes that a mature climber knows how to fear that which should be feared and runs away when appropriate. He easily accepts the precence of fear and the stress it implies. He may attain a state of egolessness in which he understands that caos rules. Upon recognizing his powerlessness over the Environment, the mature climber understands the value spirittual development and the necessity of fosterin a Connection between himself and the mountain.

Mark F. Twight climbing..

Humility, self-awerness and self-Reliance are the fondation for becoming a good climber.

Get your self a vision…

We all have dreams of what we would like to achieve in life, and for most of us they remain a dream unless we take action. Surround yourself with friends that will help you achieve your life goals..

21:th of December

Today we open door number 21.

This year the Abisko Ice climbing festival was born. And I think that this is a sign of an activity that will grow. In 2015 the festival will be held 26/2-1/3.

This upcoming year the celebration of 150 years since Matterhorn was climbed to the top. It was Edward Whymper who was the first to reach the summit.

14:th of July 1865 Edward Wyhmper was the first on the summit of Matterhorn..

The triumph is a fact, and they  can feel secure that the Italian not has reach te top.  There is no fotprints in the snow. But the joy is short lived. During the descending four of the seven strong climbing team falls into a certain death. All of the climb he has written in a book. 1015 is Matterhorns year…

Want to read more…

Navigation, when it comes to navigation you can keep the 4K in mind(In swedish)

Klocka (Watch) Kompass (compass) Karta(map) Kunskap(Knowledge), this is one thing that cant be replaced…

Use your knowledge of time, how fast do you move (benchmark is 3km/hour). Always got a compass direction in case of poor visibility. Read the map befora and memorize. And use your experience and use your fantasy to build up diffrent scenarios to be prepered…

And now to thes weeks quis:

In one of the Stf mountain stations you can see this stuff. From wich of them is this picture taken from?

Sen in the answer by SMS  befor tuesday evening to  +4673-701 2850. Yea and by the way: Frosten ligger vit på taken, Uffe badar bland isflaken. It was cold in the water in Lillsjön taday. But at least i was alert:-)

20th of December..

Time flyes and today we open door twenty. I started the day with a duathlon. A workout in the gym, followed with a trailrunning. Today it will be about some new products. First of all, Sea to summit has a new series of sleeping mats. So for us who need to sleep good in a tent, this is real good stuff:-)

Next thing I think is quite interesting is La Sportivas new jackets. Good price and real good quality and details. As usual I like stuff with bright coulors, which is clearly visible.

La Sportiva Storm fighter jacket..

And for you who will become a mountaineerer this book can be a great gift to wish for christmas..

Mountain climbers need breaks too.

19:th of December, light is not always right..

So today it is time to open door 19th. Normally I am against pointers, but today it will be one. Today it will be about trailrunning. There will Always be new forms of training activity, and I think that is good. In this category, it about going fast in the mountain environment, and to do fast top ascends. This has starting to be a reason for mountain rescue missions. They become Cold, and dont got the right equipment(it to light for the reason that it must be fast).  I am not against this form of training or activity, but in my meaning we always must carry or own equpment for ”survival”, and of course the knowledge of handle our selves in the Environment…

Do not use the rescue resorces in unnecesserly..

18:th of December…

Today we open door eighteen, and today I must comment the telvesion program ” The biggest adventure” in Swedish television. A bunch of glad former elite athletes  venture into the wilderness. The TV host explain that they really need to get down from the mountain, it can bve Cold. About -7 degrees at least. Oh shit Sherlock..Is it really Cold in the Andes?

Funny Jidhe?, no. Interesting Jihde? no. Do I Watch it…No:-) not from now..

The best mountain station in sweden is selected, and it was the same as last year. Saltoloukta is the Winner this year again. One of the one with most increasing guset night was Kebnekaise mountain station. Can depend on the new manager Lisa Lindblom 🙂 Great job Lisa!!

Saltoloukta mountain station…

Se ya tomorrow..

17:tn of December, its the small thing that matters?

So, then it was time to open door seventeen, and look wats there..

Today I was thinking about the big adventures and the small adventures. We sometimes tend to forget that it can be the small thing that matters…

We can read about those ones who have done the seven summits and we wish that is has been me standing there..But hand to our heart, do you relly think you have been a more happier human with that? I think that the risk today is that we always want to be someone else or somewhere else. I think it is better to come in terms with who you are and go from there…

And related to yesterdays blog, you here got a video for sharpening your ice axes..

The qoute of the day:

”The difference between climbers and normal workers is that climbers are glad of the Mondays, so they can rest.”

Guillaume Dargaud

Choose your ambition in Life…..

16:th of December, about a guest house and glacier tips..

We open door sixteen today..

In the area of the ”Höga kusten” there is  a small friendly guest house. Skuleskogens guesthouse. It is real nice Place and the Environment is fantastic. It is also close to Skulebergets Via ferrata area. So this can be a very good basecamp for a lot of adventure. Please follow the link if you are interested.

The Skuleskogens guest house..

When it comes to glacier walks and Winter/ice climbing, here comes some tips.

Rope: use a ”dry” or water-repellent type of rope. this do not tend to freeze up as other type of ropes. Sharp tools is also important. Picks and crampons need to be sharpened. For this you can use a small file, something you always should bring with you within this activity. Add a little extra money on good quality file. Never use power grinder, it can couse damage to the Equipment. You also can use for example Locktite to provide extra Insurance that bolts will stay tight.

Always have Sharp Tools….
